Google Voice: Voicemail transcription

I’ve been using Google Voice for a few weeks now, and while I haven’t been leveraging its full potential, it is still a very useful tool in my communications arsenal. (muahaha?)

One of the most useful features for me has been the transcribed voicemails. I’ll talk more on this some other time. For now, some laughs on the different ways in which it has thus far transcribed my name:

• “accounts on my cellphone” (this one was supposed to be “[…], Jong-Sun. Hi Jong-Sun […]”
• “chunk soon”
• “Jonathan”
• “Johnson”
• “tone. Sounds like something” (this one was also supposed to be “[…], Jong-Sun. Hi Jong-Sun […]”

All of these were spoken by the same person, and in a very “close to the Korean” pronunciation of my name. These are all of the times (so far) that my name was spoken in a transcribed message.

In general, the transcription is surprisingly accurate and rarely are errors wrong yet close enough to the spoken word to impact the meaning of the message. I’ll repeat my promise to talk more on Google Voice itself again here.

I can’t wait to see how Google Voice will transcribe my name next.
