I know I’ve come across information on this before. Since tumblr just ate what I previous wrote, I’ll just say this.

Tidbit: The window-per-folder mode is from the old Mac OS days, before it was called Mac OS, e.g., System 7 (and earlier?) when the Finder was not multitasking. Even afterward, and now, it’s an interesting paradigm for a file manager, though one that clearly suited the earlier Mac OS file system and folder structure.

I don’t clearly remember a hack to force one behaviour or another, though it may exist.

If I remember, I’ll go through my delicious links and look for a solution. In the meantime, I know I’ve read some stuff from Gruber and others related to this, so here are just some quick links I dug up:
